This is a diary that was recommended by one person when I first posted it in 2011.

Global free trade that drives down environmental and labor standards.  There is no alternative.

Our for profit health care system is too entrenched to take on.  We can only tinker around the edges.  There is no alternative.

Media companies will decide what we need to know.  We can't stop them from consolidating, let alone require them to broadcast in the public interest.  There is no alternative.

Public education hasn't magically created good jobs for all the people it has educated.  Clearly it has failed.  We must privatize. There is no alternative.

The wars must continue. More wars will take their place.  There is no alternative.

The government can't keep us safe unless it can tap our phones and violate our privacy.  There is no alternative.

If we regulate banks in one area, they'll simply charge more somewhere else.  There is no alternative.

Corporations are people and money is speech.  They can't be regulated.  Elections can be bought and sold.  There is no alternative.

Governments don't run the world.  Goldman Sachs runs the world.  There is no alternative.

If we tax the rich, they'll leave and take their money with them.  There is no alternative.

Finance is the future.  Making things is the past.  There is no alternative.

Banks have releveraged themselves.  If they win, they keep the money.  If they lose, we will bail them out again.  There is no alternative.

Our elites can never be held accountable.  There is no alternative.

Talking heads get to decide what economics positions are "serious" and what positions are "shrill." There is no alternative.

Society is composed of 1% winners and 99% losers, and the losers just need to suck it up.  There is no alternative.

Energy policy can't look farther ahead than the current depression.  There is no alternative.

Every year, corporations take more and more power over our society and our daily lives.  Every year, government becomes more enthusiastic in helping them along.  There is no alternative.

More and more of our infrastructure --our future-- is being sold into the hands of multinational corporations.   There is no alternative.

What is it that America needs?  We need an alternative.

If any Clinton supporters have made it this far, feel free to point out how I’ve twisted myself in knots since then to accommodate the Sanders programme.
